Аtrophy of the optic nerve

There is atrophy of the optic nerve, partial or complete, as a result of various diseases of the optic nerve, retina (inflammation, dystrophy, swelling, impaired blood circulation of the optic nerve, intoxication), diseases of the central nervous system (tumors, arachnoiditis, meningitis, syphilitic lesions of the optic nerve, multiple sclerosis, hypertension, atherosclerosis, profuse bleeding, hereditary disease).

Primary or simple atrophy is distinguished, and secondary – post-inflammatory or post-congestive.

Atrophy of the optic nerve can be partial or complete, stationary or progressive, unilateral or bilateral. It is characterized by a decrease in visual functions (visual acuity, color vision, narrowing of the field of vision), pallor of the optic disc and narrowing of retinal vessels.

This problem belongs to a relatively new field – neuro-ophthalmology.

Each examination is a separate case that undergoes an in-depth analysis together with scientists and doctors, where the most effective methods for treating each patient are determined.

Treatment is carried out in the format of a day hospital.
